Tiki Tuesday: The Jungle Bird
/Aloha Tiki boys and girls! Hope you all enjoyed a nice long Memorial Day weekend. We’ve had some bipolar weather here in the Bay Area. It can’t decide if it’s ready to be summer or not. Luckily the sun came out yesterday for our drive up north for some official Tiki business. Besides being the California State Capitol, Sacramento is also home to our new favorite Tiki bar, The Jungle Bird.
Let’s jump right in to the decor, always our favorite part. We got a really good combination of classic tiki hut, with the nautical light fixtures mixed with a great modern banana leaf wallpaper. The most unique part of their decor that stood out from any other Tiki bar we’ve been to was the gallery wall of tropical bird artwork. Keeping in theme with the name and the logo, which we love btw!
Here’s what we ordered:
El Diablo
Tequila, Lime Juice, Creme De Cassis, ginger syrup, with a splash of soda water.
The Jungle Bird
Dark Jamaican Rum, Campari, Pineapple Juice, Lime Juice, and Simple syrup
Saturn
Gin, Lemon Juice, Passionfruit Puree, Orgeat and Falernum
Patty’s Poison
Rum, Pineapple Juice, Orange Juice, Lemon Juice, Strawberry Syrup, and Cinnamon
Porpoise Punch
5 year Rum, Light Rum, Macadamia Nut Liqueur, Pineapple, and Grenadine.
Our top picks were the Jungle Bird which, we recommend for those of you who love the bitterness of Campari and of course the Porpoise Punch, because we can’t resist a drink with MACADAMIA NUT LIQUEUR!
All the drinks we ordered had a very nice balance of flavors. Neither were too sweet or too alcoholic (not that that’s a bad thing). Overall great drink menu with great prices. If you’re there on a weekday, be sure to check out their happy hour. We ordered a few items off the pu pu menu that really hit the spot. We got the Coconut Shrimp and Pork Sisig Tacos, YUMMM!
It’s not too often that we get to travel past Oakland, so this long weekend was a nice excuse to get out and explore the capitol city. It ended up being a really nice sun shining day filled with coffee, aloha shirts, and tropical drinks - truly on brand for us. Special thanks to Buddy at Jungle Bird for keeping the drinks comin’! Last weekend we made yet another trip to Disneyland! But before we entered the park, we decided to order brunch from a little tropical bar and grill, right smack in the heart of Disneyland Resort.
