Tiki Tuesday: Tong Hut Palm Springs
/Tiki Tuesday is back! Show of hands, who would have thought we’d ever get to step foot in a tiki bar again in 2020? Not us! It’s been well over 5 months since we have been ordered to shelter-in-place and just as long since we had a drink in a bar! While it wasn’t exactly the same experience we would have liked, it was still refreshing to sit back, relax, and sip away on tropical drinks on the outdoor patio of the Tonga Hut in Palm Springs.
Luckily this wasn’t our first time here, so we didn’t feel like we missed out too much on the charm of the interior. We were still able to snap some pics while we walked through to the outdoor patio area. What we love about this bar is the mid-century aesthetic intertwined with the tiki decor. Right up our alley! Especially since one of our favorite things to do in Palm Springs is cruise around the neighborhoods and marvel at the beautiful architecture!
Once we were seated, we browsed the hands-free mobile menu from our phones. Their selections ranges from Tiki Classics, to Tonga Hut Originals and everything in between. With the temperature just over 100 degrees, anything would have quenched our thirst, but since this was our first in-bar tiki drink IN MONTHS we took our orders very seriously.
Food was easy! We got the Pu Pu Platter, which was a mix of their popular appetizers, from coconut shrimp to spicy barbecue ribs. As for drinks, we started off with the Nui Nui, for that classic rum, spice, and citrus combination. Maybe it was the rum, maybe it was the heat, but this one definitely packed a punch!
Next up, 3 Dots and a Dash! The blend of rums with that home made falernum was excellent! Definitely helped us stay cool while we were out on the patio.
Finally, we ended the evening with the Chai Tai, Tonga Huts original made with their in-house chai syrup. Anyone else try this one out? Quite the treat!
We were really impressed with all the protocols put in place to keep all the customers and staff safe and comfortable. And of course the complimentary shots gave our visit that chef’s kiss! Cheers to the Tonga Hut for a job well done keeping operations going during this global pandemic. We look forward to coming back soon! Miss you already!
