Aloha Friday: Retro Cabana Sets by Volcano Designs

This post has been a long time coming! Last summer when we were out in Portland for TikiKon, we happened to be seated next to Ashley of Volcano Designs at Hale Pele. We got to talking and found out she would be selling her handmade cabana sets, caftans, and dresses at the convention.

We were really interested in getting a cabana set from her, so the next day we went over to her booth to try them out and fell instantly in love! We didn’t purchase anything right off the bat because we had some ideas on how we could collaborate to create cabana sets that really reflected our style!

Over the next couple weeks we chatted over Instagram, bouncing ideas off each other while searching for prints and patterns. We finally were able to narrow it down to these final two! About a month later at the Tiki Oasis in San Diego, we had our first fitting and Ashley was able to make some tweaks from there to get them just right.

We loved the way they turned out! Nowadays, there’s not much opportunity to wear them out, but since we just took a little road trip down south, we figured there is no better place to show off our custom made cabana sets than Palm Springs.

Once we were done melting at the pool, we got ourselves cleaned up and hit the road! This trip was all about treating ourselves, so we indulged in cold brew from Cartel Coffee Lab and ice cream from their neighbors, Shop[pe]! On our way down the strip we passed by another infamous Palm Springs tiki bar, Bootlegger Tiki! This is one we haven’t been to yet, so it was a bummer that it was closed due to the state restrictions. Luckily they are able to do take out cocktails, so there is an opportunity to still support!

We also had a chance to stop by the Shag store! We were hoping the Star Wars inspired collection was still on display, but sadly they had just taken it down to make room for all of these really cool Moaha Chiminea designed by Shag and produced by Tiki Farm! We would have gotten one for ourselves had they not been sold out! We then drowned our sorrows in a couple drinks over at Tonga Hut right after, wrapping up our Palm Springs excursion.
