Tiki Tuesday: Trailblazer Tavern

We took a break from the holiday madness to have ourselves a Merry Little Tiki Christmas brunch before finishing up our last minute shopping. We headed up to San Francisco to try out Trailblazer Tavern in the Salesforce building. (Shout out to Wendy & Felipe for hooking us up with a gift card!) 🤙🏽

While it may not be the dark and eclectic Tiki bar we’re used to, it definitely hit a lot of our favorite design trends. The space had mid-century inspired pergolas, teal and wood accents, monsteras and palms in every nook and cranny. What more could we ask for??

They were serving their “Luaupolooza” menu which had a ton of Hawaiian comfort foods. Chefs Michael Mina and James Beard-nominated Hawaiian Chefs Michelle Karr-Ueoka and Wade Ueoka set out to create a menu that would give a true Hawaiian dining experience. Mission accomplished! It gave us flashbacks to our trip to Oah last Fall. Particularly having breakfast every morning while sitting on the patio at the Laylow in the heart of Waikiki.

Who can ever just choose one thing off a menu?! We always order to share, so we get to try as many things as possible. To start we had the Maitake Mushroom tempura with a yuzu mousseline. Words can not describe how much we loved that yuzu mousseline! We followed up with the S.P.A.M Musubi. The mochi crust had THE PERFECT crunch.

For the main dish, we had the Pipikaula Hash, made up of Hawaiian beef jerky, potatoes, vegetables, and eggs. We washed that down with two beautifully crafted tropical cocktails.

And for the best part of every meal. Dessert! We would honestly go back just to order the Coconut Cake. That coconut chiffon just melted in our mouths. It was like no cake we have ever had before. We 100000% recommend getting this! We were later surprised with a passionfruit creme brûlée, complimentary from the chef! Thankfully we had just enough room in our stomachs to finish it all.

Now that we’re looking back at all the delicious food we had, it seems that we are long overdue for another San Francisco day. And of course we’ll be stopping by Trailblazer to see what their dinner and drink menu have to offer. Stay tuned for a follow up post, but in the meantime go out at get that coconut chiffon cake!
