Recipes: Shark's Tooth
While it’s been fun going out and trying new bars and drink menus, we really missed making a drinks at home. Then we realized it’s been so long since we shared a recipe with you all. Our big push/inspiration to get back on track was sparked up when Kane was gifted Don Papa Rum from the Philippines for his birthday.
We really liked the flavor so we thought, “Why don’t we make a traditional Tiki drink like the Shark Bite, but swap out Jamaican rum for Don Papa?” and BAM here we are with the first cocktail recipe blog of the year!
Not that we’re mixologist or anything, but since we liked the rum so much, we wanted to give you our little twist on a drink you all know and love, Shark’s Tooth. It’s easy, it’s fun, and we bet you already have everything you need to make it right now!
This shark goes way back, before Baby Shark. Even before Left Shark. We’re talking way WAY back to the 1930’s here! Created by none other than Don the Beachcomber himself. The recipe was a mystery until it was decoded by Beachbum Berry. You can find this recipe and a lot more in Beachbum Berry Remixed.
Now with the history lesson out of the way, let’s get mixin’!
Here’s what you’ll need:
2 oz Don Papa Rum
0.5 oz Lime Juice
0.5 Pineapple Juice
0.5 Simple Syrup
1 tps Maraschino Cherry Syrup
3 oz Crushed Ice
The original recipes calls for you to blend all on high for 5 seconds and then pour into a mug or old fashioned glass. We had some crushed ice already, so we just did a pour over to save ourselves the time on clean up.
Finally, use a cherry and pineapple leaves to garnish!
Enjoy!
If you like many Tiki drinkers are using Jamaican rum, you should try swapping it out for the Don Papa! The honey, vanilla, and fruit notes will make the flavors of your tropical drink really pop! Don’t take our word for it. Try it out for yourself and let us know what you think in the comments below!
