Navy Grog

Our Tiki Tuesday night outing at The Cedar Room re-lit the fire for us to make more drinks at home. We went to our trusty Tiki Cocktail book (read about it here) to see what we could make with the ingredients we had. Tiki drinks can be complex, but we found a classic recipe that we were able to whip up quick with a few pantry items.

Here we have the Navy Grog. The name of this drink was inspired by the British Naval Rum ration, which gave all it’s sailors a daily ration of full strength rum. While that may be a little much for a Tuesday night in, mixing rum with some fresh squeezed fruit juices and honey syrup might be more on your level.

Our favorite thing about this drink is it’s signature ice cone garnish. We did a quick DIY by putting some crushed ice in a ziplock, but you could purchase the official Beachbum Berry's Navy Grog Ice Cone Garnish Kit on Amazon to make things easier.

What you’ll need:

1 oz Light Rum

1 oz Dark Rum

1 oz Demerara Rum

1 oz Honey Syrup

¾ oz Lime Juice

3/4 oz Grapefruit Juice

1 oz Soda Water

Ice Cone with straw for garnish

Add all ingredients with ice in to a shaker and SHAKE, SHAKE, SHAKE! Strain into a glass and add your ice cone with straw.

Now that we’ve restocked our home bar a little, we’ll be back to trying out recipes and posting them here on a more regular basis.
