Tiki Tuesday: Royal Hawaiian
We’ve had our eye on this spot for quite some time now and we finally the chance to stop by on our weekend get away earlier this month. Despite the rain, we decided to take a drive down PCH from Huntington Beach to Laguna Beach. While on the way, the sun decided to come out and shine down on the Royal Hawaiian.
Since 1947, the Royal Hawaiian has been providing the community and tourist with a little escape to the Hawaiian Islands with their tropical oasis. Here you’ll find island inspired cuisine and delicious tropical libations.
After marveling at the decor, we sat at the bar and ordered their house drink, the Lapu Lapu, which is made with dark overproof four-island blend rum, aged martinician rhum agricole, passion fruit puree, lemon juice, and orange juice. All the juices are made fresh in house - and that makes for an exceptionally good cocktail.
You can never go wrong with a Chi-Chi. Especially for some day time drinking. Made with vodka, fresh blended pineapple, pineapple juive, and coconut syrup.
One of the best things about popping in on a Saturday afternoon is that the bar was empty, so we tasked our bartender Shelby to make us anything she wanted. What we ended up with was the perfect blend of strong and sweet flavors in what she jokingly named “The Rockstar" after her personal rockabilly style.
For those in the area who haven’t been, be sure to head down to the Royal Hawaiian in Laguna Beach, California when you get a chance! Great, friendly staff, amazing drinks, and a whole lot of history. They also sponsor a really cool event called Tikiland Trading Co, so keep an eye out for that!
