Recipes: Breakfast Mai Tai

It’s been a while since we’ve tried out a new recipe, and since we’ve had this Easy Tiki book since August we figured it was a great place to start! We were feeling a little overwhelmed with all the options, so we took to Instagram to have you all help us decide on a recipe! We chose 6 page numbers at random, took a poll on Instagram Stories, and then tallied up the results.

Thanks to who participated, page 135 won by a landslide!

Now you’re all wondering, what did page 135 have in store for us? We opened up the book to 135 to find a recipe for the Breakfast Mai Tai. Could we have asked for anything better?!

We only had half of the ingredients in our bar shelf, which meant a trip to our local BevMo to get a couple of things.

Here’s what you’ll need

1 1/2 oz overproof Jamaican rum
1/2 oz banana liqueur
1/2 oz orgeat
1/4 oz cinnamon syrup
1 oz lime juice
3/4 oz black rum

Combine the overproof rum, banana liqueur, orgeat, cinnamon syrup, and lime juice in a cocktail shaker. Add a little crushed ice and shake until the ice melts. Pour into a glass and top with black rum and more crushed ice. Finally, add some mint springs for garnish and if you’re feeling up to it a charred cinnamon stick!

OH MAI TAI!

Just when we thought this tiki classic couldn’t get any better…the banana and cinnamon combo drives that breakfast concept home. It had a great balance of sweet, earthy, and just a little sour. We really had to restrain our selves from drinking these too quickly. If you’re into Bananas Foster or Banana French Toast, you’re going to want to try this one out!

“I definitely would drink this for breakfast when vacationing somewhere tropical or even on a day off, daydreaming of bing in the tropics” said author, Chloe Frechette and we 100% agree with that statement! And now that we have this full bottle of banana liqueur, you bet we’ll be making this version of the Mai Tai for our weekend brunches!

Big thanks again to everyone who participated in our poll. We’re looking forward to doing another one of these very soon, so keep on following along on Instagram @theTikiCollective!
